History
How we started
Sales tax collection isn’t easy, but that’s something we’ve been changing since day one. e-Gov Systems started as a New Orleans-based company in 1997 with the launch of Sales Tax Manager, a software used to aid in the filing of state and local sales and use tax returns in Louisiana. That initial idea of providing an easier, more efficient solution for tax compliance has become the core of what e-Gov Systems does and has stretched farther and further with each new innovative application developed.
Online: The new frontier
By 2003, e-Gov Systems sensed where the industry was heading and that was online. A filing and payment website began production by a small team of developers with a simpler, more streamlined sales tax compliance solution in mind. This became SalesTaxOnline.com, a still-growing tax portal that today is used nationwide by government agencies.
Relocation & new opportunities
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall and displaced many in New Orleans, including e-Gov Systems. With its new home in Baton Rouge, e-Gov had the opportunity to pursue new opportunities. The company focused on expansion, and in 2007 e-Gov Systems partnered with the Louisiana Department of Revenue to develop Parish E-File. The online portal became the first website to offer an online return and remittance system for sales taxes in all Louisiana parishes and is still widely used today. Parishes also continue to provide their sales and use tax returns to taxpayers on SalesTaxOnline.com.
Providing new solutions
e-Gov Systems sought out additional outlets for tax compliance and began developing another online portal, this time for insurance tax purposes. With the creation ofIPTaxOnline.com, insurance companies could now pay insurance premium tax payments with the same ease as other taxpayers using SalesTaxOnline.com.
Expansion into new cities
Building off the successes of SalesTaxOnline.com and Parish E-File, e-Gov Systems was called on to build a customized portal for renewing and paying business licenses online in the state of Alabama. The initiative launched in 2009 and shortly after, e-Gov Systems expanded it’s presence to Kansas, Arizona and beyond.
SalesTaxOnline expands
Soon other clients began to call upon e-Gov Systems to provide more online solutions. This expansion led to the development of separate collection portals such asPropertyTaxOnline.net and a citation payment website called Fees and Fines. e-Gov Systems’ first utility payment website was developed in 2010.
The here & now
In 2013, e-Gov Systems began working with with the City of Seattle to be their multi-city business license and tax portal solution developer. The resulting solution, FileLocal.org, began development soon after and is expected to launch in 2015. Around the same time, e-Gov Systems merged with the New Orleans based software development company Antares, under the parent company of RAMWare to increase each company’s ability to provide a wide-range of products and services.
Future growth
On the horizon, e-Gov Systems looks forward to continued growth and creating fluidity between all of its products. A complete integration of all their desktop and online services is planned which will seat the company as an end-to-end provider for any tax compliance solution needed.
